About us

i4sea: climate intelligence to decide before the impact

i4sea is a Brazilian software company that helps critical operations anticipate climate risks and act before they turn into losses. We combine proprietary high-resolution forecasts, artificial intelligence and the context of each operation in a single platform, from tomorrow’s alert to the climate resilience strategy for the coming decades.

Any operation exposed to the weather can use i4sea, from ports, railways and mines to pipelines, energy, insurance and delivery, to know when the climate will affect their business, what to do and when to act. We don’t deliver weather forecasts. We deliver operational, strategic and auditable decisions.

You can’t control the climate, but you can manage the risks.

Our mission is to democratize access to early information about climate risks. Because the climate is uncontrollable, but risk is manageable.
Mateus Lima, CEO, i4sea

Our story: we started at sea

  1. 2015

In 2015, four oceanographers trained at the Federal University of Bahia founded Preamar. Surfers and divers, they made their own forecasts of waves, winds and currents in Todos os Santos Bay because the available forecasts weren’t enough.

  2. 2016

It soon became clear that ports and terminals had the same need, with much more at stake: safe and efficient ship maneuvers. Drawing on operational forecasting experience at Petrobras’s research center, the founders developed i4cast®.

  3. 2017

In December 2017, the company signed its first contract, with Wilson Sons. After its first capital investment, it became i4sea.

  4. 2020

From 2020, the same scientific foundation moved beyond the port into energy, mining, railways, highways, engineering, rivers and agriculture, with projects from Chile to offshore wind farms in the North Sea and the Baltic.

  5. 2025

In 2025, a R$ 7.5 million round led by the GovTech Fund accelerated this expansion.

Why we exist: protecting people and operations from climate impacts

Climate events caused R$ 184 billion in losses in Brazil between 2022 and 2024, and 91% of that amount had no insurance protection, according to the Climate Events and Insurance Radar in Brazil by CNseg and EY (2025). Over the past decade, extreme events in the country were 3 times more frequent and more severe, according to the Brazilian Digital Atlas of Disasters (MDR).

This is not a future trend. For any operation exposed to the weather, it already shows up as downtime, delays and contingency costs and, in the worst cases, as a risk to the lives of people in the field. This is the problem i4sea exists to solve.

Where we are today

Today i4sea is a climate risk management platform covering three decision horizons: days, months and years. That means 10 years of continuous operation generating proprietary data, more than 100 critical assets monitored and more than 40 clients in Brazil, Chile, Europe and the United Kingdom. They include Capstone, Transpetro, Santos Brasil, Grupo EPR, Vattenfall, Ultracargo and Tic Trens. Together, our clients act on more than 10,000 actionable alerts a year in real decisions.

actionable alerts per year
  • i4cast®, from 0 to 10 days

Risk per asset, per hourly window, with actionable alerts on WhatsApp, email, SMS and Teams before the event.

  • AI Climate Agent, 24 hours a day

A specialist trained for each sector that knows your operation’s limits and protocols and recommends what to do.

  • i4climate®, from years to decades

Automated regulatory reports (CVM 218, IFRS S2, TCFD), scenarios through 2075 and prioritization of climate resilience investment.

Technical foundation

Everything runs on proprietary modeling: the WRF atmospheric model at 1 to 3 km for all of Latin America, SWAN and ROMS oceanographic models at 10 to 500 m, and more than 10 years of hyperlocal reanalysis. The platform monitors 18 weather and ocean hazards, with hourly updates that can reach every 20 minutes. That is what makes it possible to build risk indices for landslides, flooding, inundation and drought, instead of a weather forecast.

Where we are going

We will be the one place where a company solves climate risk, from tomorrow’s forecast to the climate of the coming decades. The goal is to increase safety, reduce costs and protect the revenue of those whose assets and operations are exposed to natural conditions.

Three fronts guide this path:

  1. 01

Risk anyone can understand. The likelihood of each event and the size of its impact, in a clear risk matrix, without needing a meteorologist by your side.

  2. 02

Built into the routine. Climate risk becomes part of the day-to-day operation, and every decision made with our data is recorded so we can learn from what worked.

  3. 03

More access, lower cost. The simpler the delivery, the lower the price and the more companies protected. That is how we fulfill our mission of democratizing access to actionable forecasts.

How we work

  • Scientific foundation

We are climate scientists before we are a software company. Proprietary models and data read your asset, not the city.

  • Climate translated into action

Each implementation is calibrated to the client’s limits and protocols, to say what to do, when to act and what to prioritize.

  • Traceable decisions

Every recommendation is recorded, creating operational memory, continuous learning and audit evidence.

  • No disruption to operations

We integrate via API with TOS, ERPs and dashboards, without requiring new sensors or a dedicated IT team. From contract to first alert takes a few weeks.

Let’s anticipate the next event together

We show which climate risks most threaten your asset and what i4sea would see today, with real data.
